Jo Foley

My name is Jo Foley and I am an event rider.

I have ridden at many international horse trials and intermediate BE events including good results at major events like Rockingham international,  Chatsworth, Hartpury and Belton. I also ride BS 1.30m and BD and specialize in producing youngsters.

In my early teenage years , along with pony club I was based in an international eventing yard based in Somerset and was thrown in the deep end backing and riding and learning from the best (Mary Hunter 4th Burghley, 10th badminton,  won in Rome and shortlisted 1984 Olympics) . From her I got jobs with 5* rider Jayne Somerton,  then many years based with Tiny Clapham working with Olympic riders Guto de Faria and Takeaki Tsuchiya travelling to many events overseas and receiving training on my own horses. I then became yard manager for Jemima Johnson before she sadly died.

Once moving closer to family in Essex I set up a livery and small event yard before being head hunted by the Bellhouse stud to compete and produce their youngsters from foals into BD, BE and BS before they were sold .

After I moved on I set up quite a large livery yard, Competition yard and Stud where I bred my own foals with a future of eventing and producing sports horses suitable for amateur riders which kept me afloat and joined owned a couple of 2/3* horses which I had a huge amount of fun on before injuries crept in.

2 years ago I changed premises and have a yard within a big yard based in Maldon currently producing young homebreds, competing owners horses and taking in schooling liveries and backing.  I also teach all around the county as I enjoy passing on my knowledge I have learnt over the years to others and seeing them smile.
