I have been riding all my life and been competing competitively for the last 6 years in all disciplines.  I was lucky enough to have the opportunity at the age of 15 years old to work for Nikki Crisp who is a international dressage rider who has competed for Great Britain who taught me everything I know. I also had the privilege of working alongside Michaela Huntington who introduced me to the show jumping circuit. I now have begun my own freelance business called, “KRK Equestrian Services” where all horsey needs are catered for whether that being on the ground or in the saddle. I am an all-round rider, I have competed up to Novice level dressage and also done BSJA along the way whilst also taking part in the Jumpcross Leagues working up from novice to advanced. I also like to do Long distance rides, Showing, taking part in clinics and having regular training so I am always learning new things to help improve myself and my horses which I can pass on to others.

I teach all disciplines at all levels, abilities, private or group lessons. I have successfully started producing my own horses to sell or compete on behalf of owners in all disciplines.

I am thrilled to be teaching people at Codham Park in Jump Cross at all the levels and watching everyone enjoy themselves and improve at each event.

Codham Park Accredited Jumpcross Instructor Rowena Ockendon-Day has been involved in the equestrian world all her life. coming from a Horsey family, she started off in the Pony Club and enjoyed all it had to offer! Eventing, Pony Club Games, before specialising in Showjumping.

Through this discipline she was lucky enough to be selected for European Teams and compete at all the best shows in the UK, and some of the best shows in Europe.

Through her formative years, Rowena was a working pupil at the yard of the great John Whitaker.  Here she learnt not only about riding and producing horses but also the management and business side of this sport.  This, she feels stood her in good stead to branch out on her own, producing, competing and selling her own and also owners horses whilst revisiting other disciplines such as Dressage.  This in turn, led to intensive training with a renowned classical dressage trainer from Germany.

Now Rowena focuses much of her time on teaching, from which she gets much pleasure, watching the development of both horse and rider.  She feels that her wealth of experience (showjumping, both nationally and internationally, and of other disciplines) has helped her hone her patient and subtle approach to her pupils as well as a quiet determination to achieve the best for all concerned.  She has a lovely manner with young horses and nervous riders, balanced with the ability to challenge those more experienced.

Codham Park Equestrian JumpCross Coach Sam NichollsCodham Park Equestrian JumpCross Coach, Sam Nicholls has worked and trained in the horse world since 1983, as a Junior rider she preferred show jumping but switched to eventing during her BHSAI training at Newark. Sam gained valuable experience working on professional dealing and eventing yards whilst training for her BHSII, before returning to East Anglia and setting up her own yard. After several years of competition riding Sam found training and mentoring others to be equally fascinating and rewarding. She enjoys working with adults and young people and aim’s to empower them to realise their full potential. She has always been involved with Pony Club instructing, particularly for her local Branch the East Essex Hunt and was extremely proud when they won the Pony Club Open Eventing Championships in 2011. Other individual pupils have gone on to contend for Squad/Team places in Junior, Young Rider and Amateur British Eventing Teams.

During 2011 and 2012 Sam has been taking part in the Coaching Development Training put in place by British Eventing whilst working towards her UKCC Level III Eventing Specific assessment and qualification. Sam has been watching and learning from the top British Coaches as they work with the Elite and Development Squads, as well as the young horses on the Pathway scheme. I have also attended training days about Cross Country course building and design.

Sam aim’s to encourage and motivate her customers towards understanding and achieving good communication and trust between horse and rider. By explaining and improving sound basics and a correct way of going, this will lead to an improvement in proficiency and performance in competition. Sam looks forward to the continuation of British equestrian success in 2013 and beyond.
